RARE GRAPE VARIETAL RESOURCE

Spergola is a little-known white wine variety used in the wines of the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, specifically the Colli Scandiano DOC.

Spergola has been used in the hills around Reggio Nell'Emilia for many hundreds of years, although plantings of the variety are now very low, being displaced by more popular white wine varieties. With only Scandiano as a base, there is limited chance the variety will find a niche elsewhere in the world.
