Seura is a grapevine variety native to Georgia very popular among the local population.
The young Seura shoots have hairy leaves with a bronze shade and tips with pink stains. Mature leaves are medium-sized, almost ovate with three or five lobes with weak or deep dissections. The petiole sinus is open and arched with a sharp base.
High quality dry red wine, grape juice (molasses) and traditional Georgia "Chacha”(a pomace brandy) are made from the grapes.
Nowadays, this grape variety has been disappearing although the wine from Seura has great export potential. For this reason, the variety needs promotion, recovery and distribution projects.
