"The name and the early maturity indicate an early medieval presence on the eastern edge of the Alps. It should have been imported to the Neckar (Cannstadt) and the Rhine Valley by Privy Councilor Bilfinger around 1750 at the latest among the variety imports of the best varieties in Europe . It is still widespread today in the forest-steppe climate of Eastern Europe and the Southern Balkans. As an autochthonous grape variety, it was not recognized in Germany until 2007."
