Recantina RARE GRAPE red

History: Recantina is an ancient red grape variety native to the Veneto region, specifically the province of Treviso and the foothills of the Asolani Hills. It has been documented since the 17th century, but its identity remained unclear for a long time until such time as it was recovered and reevaluated in the 1990s. This rediscovery led to its reintroduction to the vineyards of Asolo and the Treviso plain, making it one of the most interesting minor native grape varieties in the Veneto region.

Recantina produces intensely colored musts, rich in tannins and with good acidity. It is a grape variety that tolerates medium-long maceration well and benefits from aging in wood, which helps smooth out its significant polyphenolic structure lending itself to the production of medium to full-bodied red wines.

Officially registered in the National Catalogue of Vine Varieties since 2007, it has, in recent years, increasingly been vinified as a single varietal to highlight its varietal identity.

Tasting notes: The wine produced from Recantina is generally intense ruby in color with purple highlights.

On the nose, aromas of red and black fruits (black cherry, blackberry, currant) emerge, along with light spicy notes, balsamic hints and occasionally hints of graphite or earth.

On the palate, it is structured, with dense yet ripe tannins, good acidity and a long finish. With aging, it develops complexity and softness, while maintaining a marked freshness.

Food pairings: Thanks to its acidity and strong tannins, it pairs perfectly with intense and tasty dishes such as red meat and game, mature cheeses and truffle-based dishes.

Production areas: Asolo Prosecco DOC with additional promotion in the area's IGT (Regional Geographical Indication) zones.
