History: Nascetta is a grape variety cultivated since antiquity in a single municipality. Originating from Novello (Cn), in the Langhe (Piedmont), Nascetta (also called Anascetta or Nas-cëtta) miraculously survived extinction.
It certainly wasn't easy for a small white grape to resist in a territory dominated by Nebbiolo and one of its noblest and most prestigious expression: Barolo.
Mentioned in ampelographic sources since the 1800s, Nascetta is described by Rovasenda as "extremely delicate grape and exquisite wine," and Lorenzo Fantini speaks of it as a wine "of finesse equal to Moscato", sometimes compared to Riesling for its ability to evolve.
After a period of almost total abandonment in the 20th century, supplanted by more productive varieties, Nascetta was rediscovered in the 1990s thanks to a small group of producers who recognized its oenological and territorial value.

Today, officially registered in the National Catalogue of Vine Varieties since 2001, it is considered one of the most interesting native Piedmontese white wines. There are no significant cultivations outside of the municipalities of Novello, Barolo, La Morra and Monforte d'Alba, confirming the grape variety's strictly territorial and identity-defining nature.
From an oenological perspective, Nascetta is an extremely versatile grape variety with a lot of structure and not a lot of acidity. It does age very, very well. It can be vinified in steel, which enhances its aromatic freshness, but it can also be aged in non-invasive wood or cement, developing complexity without losing balance. It is also suited to the production of wines for aging, thanks to its ability to develop hydrocarbon and mineral notes similar to those of Riesling and Timorasso over time. Tasting notes: Nascetta wine has a bright straw yellow color, often with greenish highlights. On the nose, it offers a fine yet complex profile: white flowers, aromatic herbs, citrus, green apple, pear, with evolutions towards honey, flint, and hydrocarbons after a few years in the bottle. On the palate, it is
fresh, savory and structured, with good acidity and a surprising consistency for a semi-aromatic grape
variety. The finish is long, characterized by a distinctive mineral note. The best versions demonstrate an excellent capacity for aging, developing depth and complexity, and confirming Nascetta as one of the most interesting Italian white grape varieties for terroir-rich, age-worthy wines. Food pairings: Pairs exceptionally well with raw fish (sushi, carpaccio), shellfish, oysters, and fresh
cheeses. Its high acidity and mineral notes make it ideal for light starters, white meat, and vegetable based dishes.
