Merille RARE GRAPE red

Merille is a dark skinned grape which can be found throughout the Garonne department of South West France. A humble variety, Merille is rarely used for anything other than blending, and usually ends up as an anonymous component in inexpensive wines sold under the Vin de Table or IGP denominations.

The variety's most notable role is in the red and rosé wines of Fronton, in which it is required to make up at least 10 percent of the final blend. In 2019 this figure will falls to just 5 percent, confirming that the variety's final days are looming. (https://www.wine-searcher.com/grape-926-merille)
