The Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata vine, like the other white berried Malvasias, belongs to the family of vines whose name “ Malvasia ” derives from a contracted variation of Monembasia , a Byzantine stronghold perched on the rocks of a promontory located in the southern Peloponnese, in Greece, where sweet wines were produced which were then exported throughout Europe by the Venetians under the name of Monemvasia . The wine made with this local variety had become extremely popular, so much so that Venice was full of taverns, called Malvase , dedicated to its consumption. The white Malvasia di Basilicata vine is mostly vinified in blends with other local varieties, to which it gives an acidity and aromatic fragrance. Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata is in fact an aromatic vine i.e. capable of giving the wine the same aroma present in its ripe grapes.

The white Malvasia di Basilicata vine has medium-low vigor and medium ripening period . The Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata vine gives a wine with a light straw color, which has a perfume on the nose distinct, and a pleasantly soft flavor tending towards sweetness.
