Maiolica RARE GRAPE red

The red wine variety used to be widespread in the Abruzzo region where, today, it is cultivated in the provinces of Pescara and Chieti as well as Macerata in Marche. The vine ripens very late, thus subjecting it preriodically to frost. It yields a colorful, spicy red wine with soft tannins, used mainly for blends. (https://glossary.wein.plus/maiolica)

The Ampelographic Bulletin reported in 1875: Maiolica black grape variety spread sporadically in the provinces of Pescara and Chieti, present in very small areas of the province of Macerata, in the Marche.
