It is primarily grown in the Tolna region, particularly around the village of Kolontár, from which it takes its name. Nowadays it is planted mostly in the Balaton-mellék (Western part of the lake Balaton and the lake Kis-Balaton). The vine is very strong. The bunch is middle-sized, the skin is thin and bursts easily. The wine made from the Kolontár is easy drink. (Information sourced from János Tamás Ujvári and https://szentesipince.hu/)
