Guardavalle (Greco Bianco di Ciro) RARE GRAPE white

Guardavalle is believed to have been introduced to Campania by the Greeks in the days of Magna Grecia.
In times past Guardavalle was blended with other varietals in order to obtain the white Cirò wine in Calabria . Over time farmers chose, out of preference, to grow only productive grape vines and, as the Guardavalle was …. the decision was made not to include in in the blending process. When Giuseppe Scala, the owner of Santa Venere, started with the project "AUTOCHTHONOUS WINES FROM CALABRIA", he chose to include this varietal. He selected the buds and planted new vines of Guardavalle.
To everyone’s surprise the grape has performed very well as a mono-varietal wine.

Guardavalle is a vine that does not have particular cultivation requirements and resists well to various diseases. The wine has a more or less intense straw yellow colour, floral, fruity with citrus and toasted walnut notes. In the mouth it is sapid, warm, fresh, intense, persistent, fine, full-bodied. Excellent as an aperitif, it goes well with fish, seafood and shellfish dishes , or with medium strength cheeses.
