The wine is very original because it is derived from an unknown vine variety, Coda di Volpe Rossa ; this grape has practically disappeared in Irpinia.
The Coda di Volpe Rossa variety is still present in some strains in Irpinia since the vineyards cultivated for family use have preserved the explant; in fact the vines are generally grown in the traditional shapes of starseto (Avellino pergola), radially or footed.
Its name derives from the Latin "Cauda Vulpium", due to the characteristic long, tapered and compact shape of the bunch which recalls the fox's tail.
