History: Discovered in 1955 by Mario Pezzi, in a vineyard over 100 years old, no longer productive and destined to be bulldozed.
Unable to catalog the variety and amazed by the grape's sweetness and elegant freshness, he decided to seek advice first from the Agricultural Institute of Cesena and then from the viticulture and enology faculties of S. Michele all'Adige and Conegliano. The result: no varietal assimilation with other already cataloged varieties.
From there, DNA confirmation was obtained. It is likely an ancient, uncatalogued variety or a natural cross, as dozens may exist in nature... no one knows. Mario Pezzi decided to propagate this vine by creating a small vineyard. In 1968, he vinified the first harvest, creating an emblem that today is present on the most important tables around the world. Even today, the '68 vintage remains elegant and lively. Barbarossa is a grape variety exclusive to Fattoria Paradiso, recognized as their flagship wine.
Its name honors the red-bearded German Emperor Frederick who spent many years in the fortress at Bertinoro that bears his name.
This wine has won important awards on the national and international level, not the least of which was the gratifying applause of Bill Clinton at the Niaf Gala in Washington.
Today, the company is run by Graziella Pezzi and her grandson Jacopo, who maintain a commitment to the essential balance between tradition and modernity, (Courtesy of Doreca - https://doreca.it/)
