Avana - Slow Food (Hibou Noir) RARE GRAPE red

Already cultivated at the turn of the 17th century and used primarily for wine production, Avanà is quite enjoyable as a table grape. It is not richly colored and, as such, is usually blended with more strongly pigmented varieties such as Barbera, Freisa, or Persan (Becuet - another local variety from Val di Susa) to obtain a more suitable balance.

Avanà is one of the few varietals used in Italy to produce ice wine - a rarity in it's own right in Italy
