Arneis is an exemplary tale of a wine grape that was virtually extinct 50 years ago that has made a nice comeback. As of last 2000, there were about 750 hectares, most, if not all, in Piedmont, Italy.
A demanding varietal (health, poor and irregular yields, low acidity, prone to oxidation), it can potentially offer expressive fruit notes.
Arneis’s finicky nature is actually what earned it its name, which means “little rascal” in Piedmontese. (https://vinepair.com/articles/wine-grape-names-with-strange-meanings/)
